A: The same single medicine may be useful for several different conditions. For
example, Gelsemium 30C can be indicated for stress or fever and Sepia 30C can be
indicated for mood swings or hot flashes. Due to space limitations on the label,
Boiron labels are printed with the most common indication(s) for each medicine,
therefore, not all conditions/symptoms will be listed on the label.
Q: Can homeopathic medicines be taken in conjunction with other
medications?
A: Micro-dosed homeopathic medicines above 4C are safe and have no known side effects
or contraindications. They can be safely taken with other conventional medicines
and are sometimes recommended as a complement to other treatments.
Q: Can I safely recommend homeopathic medicines for children?
A: Homeopathic medicines can be given to children under age 2 without risk. For
treating children over age 2 years, please follow label directions. Homeopathic
medicines may be dissolved in water for easier administration to small children.
The dosage is generally the same for adults and children since the activity of homeopathic
medicines is not body-mass dependent. See package labeling for specific dosage recommendations.
Q: What is the dosing frequency for homeopathic medicines?
A: Follow the instructions provided on the product label, however, when it comes
to single medicines packaged in multi-dose tubes, general dosage instructions are
five (5) pellets taken three (3) times per day. As a general rule of thumb, when
self-medicating, patients can increase the frequency when the symptom is sudden
and acute, then decrease it as the condition/symptom improves. For example, for
a twisted ankle, patients can take Arnica every 10 minutes 3-4 times, and then reduce
the dosage to three (3) times per day, as needed.
Q: How quickly can patients expect to see improvement?
A: With homeopathic medicines, improvements are usually seen very quickly, particularly
in acute conditions and when treatment is begun at the early onset of symptoms.
Individual product labels can provide more specific information and directions for
use. Patients whose symptoms persist or worsen should consult a doctor. Chronic
conditions require the attention of a health care provider knowledgeable in homeopathy
and may require more time for improvement.
Q: Can homeopathic medicines be used to treat cancer?
A: No. There is no homeopathic treatment for cancer.
Q: Can homeopathic medicines be used to treat recurring illnesses?
A: For patients with chronic illnesses, homeopathic treatment aims to reduce the
intensity and frequency of episodes or outbreaks, such as with allergies or herpes.
Q: Can homeopathic medicines prevent certain diseases?
A: Homeopathic medicines are indicated for relief of symptoms and not prevention
of infectious diseases.
Q: Do homeopathic medicines act quickly?
A: Yes. When used for acute, occasional illnesses, homeopathic medicines have a
rapid effect, especially if taken as soon as symptoms appear. For chronic disorders
such as asthma, migraines and allergies, longer treatments may be needed to see
sustained relief.
Q: Are homeopathic medicines and allopathic treatments compatible?
A: There are no contraindications between homeopathic and allopathic treatments
when taken simultaneously.
Q: What do patients who wish to self-prescribe homeopathy treatments
need to know?
A: Because homeopathic medicines can be a fast, reliable and appropriate solution,
in many instances, self-medication may be sufficient for treating acute, non-serious
pain or disorders. However, if symptoms continue, patients are strongly encouraged
to consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment.

Q: How much alcohol is found in homeopathic medicines?
A: Mother tinctures contain alcohol, as do the orally administered drops prepared
in an alcohol solution. One hundred drops of 65 percent mother tincture contain
1.026 grams of pure ethanol. In comparison, one glass of 12 percent wine contains
9.5 grams of pure ethanol.

A: Most homeopathic medicines have a five-year expiration date.
