Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery
Mount Sinai School of Medicine NY
Director, Center for Vein Disease

"As a vascular surgeon specializing in the management of vein disease, I perform
a number of minimally invasive vein procedures. While most of these procedures involve
no incisions and only one or two small skin punctures, a lot of “work” is being
done under the skin. These procedures are done to decrease symptoms, improve looks
and avoid the complications of vein disease. Even though bruising, swelling and
discomfort tend to be minimal with these newer methods, some does occur. For the
past few years I have incorporated the use of Arnica both orally and topically for
these procedures. Most patients have decreased visible bruising and swelling and
report less discomfort. The use of Arnica was prompted by finding patients that
needed procedures on both legs. Each leg had separate treatment sessions. For one
leg Arnica was utilized and for the other Arnica was not used. The majority of patients
reported less pain and bruising and faster recovery with the Arnica treated leg.
We now intend to begin a prospective, double blind, randomized trial to document
these results. I would recommend the routine use of Arnica pellets and cream for
these vein procedures."
